Muddy Adventure

We decided it was time for some family fun because we have been so busy lately.
Todd has had 6 weeks of 100+ hours at work, so needless to say we needed to get outta here!
The outdoors always seem to be able to lift spirits and let you forget your worries.
So, we headed to the mountains for a quick afternoon weenie roast.

It was a bit disappointing when we pulled into our spot and the sky looked like this.
There was a continuous rumbling of thunder as we pulled out our stuff and gathered wood for the fire.
There had been an obvious downpour just before we arrived because there were small flash floods all around and the creek was swelling above the bank.

But we persisted.
It's kind of hard not to when you tell a 3 year old about your mountain plans.

Todd worked furiously to get our fire going despite the wet wood and small droplets of rain that were starting to fall.

And the thunder continued.

And the creek beside us roared.
It was beautiful.

Cash found enjoyment in squishing his feet in mud that surrounded us.
I found enjoyment in thinking about how big my laundry pile would be after this adventure.

He eventually found a spot for his chair and coached his daddy in starting our fire.

And it worked! The fire roared... and so did the rain.
I kid you not. The second our fire was actually really strong, the rain started and the lightning and thunder got close.
Too close.
So we quickly packed up.
And enjoyed some snacks from the safety and warmth of the truck.

But not before snapping a few last photos!
Smile boys!

That's better...

It was so nice to get out together,
and my laundry pile actually isn't too bad!
